The Announcement a fictional story by Jessica Singleton

The Announcement

Body of fictional work in the form of a fairy-tale.

Once upon a time, there lived a great king.  He only had one child with his queen.  They named the little girl Ruby October.
When Ruby October was four years old, her father the king went away on a long trip.  He had to save another land from war.  The king took off in the middle of the night, with all of his horses and all of his knights.

The country that the king went to was in ruins.  When he got there, there was nothing to save at all.  When the king and his men were about to give up hope that there was any life left to save, they came across a baby girl that was abandon.
The king was a ruler but he was a father first.  The sight of an orphaned child left to die broke his heart.  So he picked her up and he took her home.  The king adopted the pesant child and he named her Crystal December.

The two girls were raised as sisters and they were both loved equally.  Crystal lacked nothing.  She was treated like a princess even though she was not born royal blood.

No matter how much love Crystal was given, she resented Ruby and she treated Ruby very unfair.  Ruby did not understand hatred because she had a fair heart and she loved her little sister.  So Ruby never hurt Crystal in return for her unkindness.

When Ruby was 20 years old she met a prince from another land and she fell in love.  They dated for years and then on the night of the royal ball, they were to announce their engagement to be married.

A few nights before the royal ball, Crystal went into town and she bought a magic potion from a gypsy and she paid the prince a visit.  She put the potion in his drink when he was not looking.

The next morning she told the prince a lie.  She told him that he fell in love with her the night before.  He told her that was not true.  He must have been drunk on wine.

The night of the royal ball, two minutes before the princess was to announce the engagement, Crystal pulled Ruby and the prince aside.  She told them she was with child.  She lied and said it was the princes.
There was no other choice for them.
The Princess Ruby would have to give the thrown to her little sister.  The prince must own up to his responciblities.  So Ruby would have the honor of telling the world that Crystal would marry the prince in the fall.
Crystal did it on purpose.  She wanted to see her sister be forced to contain such pain as she wished them fairwell.

Ruby stood in front of the kingdom and she put her hand on her heart, she swallowed hard and she said, the magic words.

"My sister, Crystal has found true love.  She is to marry the prince in the fall."

For the words were magic because they silenced out the world.  Ruby had never felt so alone and hurt.  She felt beside herself and she could not even hear the crowd scream for joy.

The princess turned around and she walked off into the hall of the castle.  Then she had to take her hand off her broken heart because she had to put it over her mouth to keep her screams silent from the world.

After Crystal was married, she had an evil plan to poison the prince again.  Only to put him to sleep for good.  But in her stupid mind, she did not pay attention.  She ended up poisoning herself.

The prince was free of her.  He went to Ruby and he told her the truth about everything.  They lived happily ever after.
